Figma to React

Figma to React: Complete Workflow for Developers

A developer-focused Figma to React workflow covering exports, component boundaries, styling, responsive behavior, and code review.

A strong Figma to React workflow respects both sides of the handoff. Design files describe visual decisions, while React components need reusable boundaries, props, state, accessibility, and integration with a real codebase.

Decide what to export

Export the exact frames that represent the target UI. Include alternate states such as open menus, validation errors, selected tabs, mobile layouts, and empty states when they matter.

BuildUI currently works from exported Figma frames such as images or PDFs rather than native file access. That keeps the upload boundary simple and avoids overclaiming direct Figma import where it is not enabled.

Map frames to React components

Before generation, decide how the UI should break into components. A page might include Layout, Sidebar, TopNav, Card, ChartPanel, Table, FilterBar, and Modal components.

Describe these desired boundaries in the prompt. AI can infer repeated patterns, but explicit structure reduces cleanup and helps the output match your team's conventions.

Handle styling and design tokens

If your app uses Tailwind CSS, CSS modules, design tokens, or an existing component library, say that before generation. Figma exports do not always communicate token names or reusable style abstractions.

Use the Design System Extractor when you need a token and component map from existing UI before converting more screens.

Review the generated code

Check responsiveness, keyboard access, labels, focus styles, loading and error states, and whether repeated sections are truly reusable.

Generated React should be integrated through the same pull request, linting, type-checking, and test process as hand-written code.

A repeatable BuildUI review workflow

Open the related converter below, select the output that matches your repository and provide implementation notes before generating. For screenshot input, use Image or paste into the dashboard prompt with Ctrl+V. Text-only paste stays text; images become removable attachments. Generation starts only when you choose Generate.

Review the existing files before importing a generated bundle. Check imports, dependency changes, image rights and navigation destinations. Compare the result at the reference width, then test a phone width, long text and empty data. Keep authentication, billing and API permissions in your existing application rather than inferring them from a visual reference.

Separate a repeated card from its page container

Ask for a reusable card only when it has a stable responsibility. Keep the collection layout and data loading in the parent, and pass the card the fields it displays. Compare two different card instances to catch hard-coded labels copied from the export.

Document the asset and token handoff alongside the frame. Exported images do not carry native Figma variable definitions or interactive prototype behavior. Verify mobile changes against an approved frame or an explicit written rule.

Key takeaways

  • Export clear Figma frames and include important states.
  • Tell the generator how the React component tree should be organized.
